Tree the Point
Plant Trees in Point Place & Shoreland!
In June 2023, the Point Place and Shoreland neighborhoods were hit by multiple tornadoes, resulting in structural damage and the loss of trees throughout the area. The ecological impact was deeply felt, as trees play a crucial role in the health and resilience of our community.
To support recovery efforts, Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful secured a grant to help restore the neighborhood’s tree canopy by replanting trees on private properties.
Residents of Point Place and Shoreland are invited to request a free tree for their yard. A variety of species are available to choose from, allowing you to select the tree that best fits your space and preferences.

Trees Grow Stronger Communities
- Air & Water Quality ~
- One mature tree absorbs up to 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year, all while filtering pollutants like ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide.
- Trees can reduce stormwater runoff by absorbing 15-27% of annual rainwater - naturally filtering out fertilizers, pesticides, & other pollutants before rainwater enters waterways.
- Cooler Neighborhoods ~
- Neighborhoods with tree canopy can be up to 10°F cooler than areas without trees.
- Property Value ~
- Neighborhoods with trees can see property values increase by 7% to 20%.
- Improved Mental & Physical Health ~
- After a neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky planted 8,000 trees, researchers found health conditions linked to heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer were reduced.
